PINE PLAINS 37th PARADE OF LIGHTS. Saturday, November 26. Every year, Pine Plains invites the community to decorate its town center. Pick up decorations in front of the Bank of Millbrook, deck the town and join the Christmas float in front of the High School at 5pm. As is tradition, Ibis Guzman will be MC-ing the parade from our balcony. We will be serving game chili, cookies and cider in our shop and on the lawn from 3-5pm. Meals are $5.
All proceeds benefit the town of Pine Plains.
Please note that we will be closed on Thursday, November 24 for Thanksgiving.
Is there any better way to start a meal than a cup of broth? We simmer roasted, grass-fed bones all night to make a rich, nourishing brew that whets the appetite and warms the body.
We love finding and supporting kindred spirits: people who are passionate about creating warm and welcoming environments and supporting small, agricultural businesses in the Hudson Valley. Alex and Emily Wenner are two such people. Beyond brewing exceptional beer using 100% NY grown ingredients, they have created a beautiful, must-visit gathering space at Lasting Joy Brewery in Tivoli, NY. We’re thrilled to pour their Beet Stout and ilovit Lager, two special brews made by Alex, at Stissing House. The Beet Stout is crafted with NY grown Love Beets and the iloveit Lager was brewed to celebrate the village of Tivoli’s 150th anniversary.
From the time he was 15 years old through the end of college, Alex spent his summers in California working in the video game industry. He brewed the occasional beer in a small Manhattan apartment during college, but, after accepting a job offer in the gaming industry in California where he had a one car garage, his beer output increased (to local Stanford University acclaim). Six months into his new career, he realized he enjoyed brewing beer more than his time at work. A quick pivot, he stepped away from gaming and went back to school for his Associates in Brewing Technology & Science.
Alex says every home brewer thinks “what if I had my own brewery?” He was no exception, and while working for some of New York City’s most iconic and beloved breweries, he always had a name in mind for his own. But when Alex and his wife Emily, high school sweethearts, decided to put down roots in the Hudson Valley and realize their dream, the name didn’t quite align with their vision. They took their cues from hospitality, not traditional breweries, and wanted to create a gathering space that was welcoming to all. A place with plenty of great options for people who don’t drink beer. A place where people would linger and enjoy themselves. Lasting Joy.
Just days after the town approved their building permits, NY State shut down all construction due to Covid. After enduring everything from construction delays to surprise heavy equipment deliveries, they finally opened in June of this year. Their structure is unique – an old barn, refurbished to house the brewing equipment, and a modern yet rustic extension to house people. The floor to ceiling glass walls draw in the outdoor landscape. The natural wood interior echoes the trees outside the windows. And the Corten steel exterior was inspired by old rusted farm equipment you see when driving down any number of local roads, reflecting the agricultural heritage of the area.
As for their vision, they have realized it. On any given day, you’ll see families and their dogs gathered at picnic tables, groups of cyclers around an outdoor fire pit, and weekenders exploring the area. In addition to their amazing beer selection, they serve a full range of other local beverages including Tousey wine, Hudson Valley Distillers cocktails and non-alcoholic options like Laughing Gut Kombucha and Weathertop Farm shrubs. Truly something for everyone.
Visit Lasting Joy Brewery Thursday - Sunday. Confirm their current hours and food pop-ups here.
